Biography

Neva Bryan is an award-winning writer.

 

She is the author of two novels, Riverswept (2017) and St. Peter's Monsters (2009).

​

Nearly 60 of her short stories and poems are published in literary journals, anthologies, and online magazines.

​

Neva is the creator of the blog "The Last Biscuit: Stories born from grief."

​

She is the author of a children's picture book, The Mystery of the Monster in Oxbow Lake (2019), illustrated by Joshua Levy.

​

A collection of her short stories and poems, Sawmill Boys, was published in 2010.

​

Neva has given readings and led workshops at the Southern Literary Festival, Virginia Writers Club Symposium, Roanoke Regional Writers Conference, Appalachian Studies Association Conference, Southern Appalachian Writers Cooperative Gathering, Appalachian Writers Workshop, Appalachian Writers Association Conference, and more.

She has frequently worked with public libraries and schools to provide readings and workshops for children and young adults.

​

Neva holds degrees from the University of Virginia and Chatham University.

​

She and husband Daniel live in the mountain coalfields of Virginia with their dogs.

Neva will travel to events in Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, and West Virginia. She is also available via Zoom or other videoconferencing platforms.

 

She can act as a workshop leader, keynote speaker, panel participant, or featured reader. Her favorite settings are colleges, libraries, book clubs, high schools, literary festivals, and writing conferences.
